JEFF GORIN OFFERS EXPERTISE
ON THE BERMUDA ISLANDS
Having resided in the Bermuda Islands during much of the period 1959 to 1965 (while my dad was located there on a temporary work assignment), and having made a number of visits there over the years following, I can offer some expertise about this delightful Atlantic island group as a vacation destination.
Bermuda is located in the Atlantic Ocean about 650 miles east and a bit south of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. As a British Overseas Territory, it is self-governing and reflects strongly both British and Caribbean cultural influences. There is scheduled airline service to Bermuda from several cities in the eastern USA and Canada, as well as scheduled cruises from USA east coast ports.
Since Bermuda is many hundreds of miles north of the Caribbean sea and its islands, the Bermuda climate is much different from that of the popular Caribbean tourist destinations. In particular, its climate is cooler. Its geographical location makes it less susceptible than the Caribbean to impact by hurricanes, yet allows moderate and very desirable temperatures at all times of the year other than the winter months.
